Illegally Logged Rosewood Seized in Kenya
A shipment of Madagascan rosewood was seized at Kenya’s Mombasa port while heading to Hong Kong recently. The shipment was valued at $6.6 million, contained 640 tonnes of wood, and was shipped in 34 containers. It is illegal to log from Madagascan rain forests, but is in high demand for luxury furniture.

New Shipping Executive at the Port of L.A.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti nominated Gene Seroka of American President Lines (APL) to become the next Director of the Port of Los Angeles. Garcetti believes that the 21 year industry veteran will be “a strong leader who will enhance our international trade agenda.” The city council must approve the nomination.

NAFTA Trade Up in March 2014
The Department of Transportation’s sub-division Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released data that trade was up 6.2% with Canada and Mexico totaling $101.5 billion in March 2014. This is the seconded highest amount of trade recorded in its history. Sixty percent and $60 billion worth of cargo was transported by trucks throughout the three partner countries.
