CMA CGM Retrofitting Bows of 10 More Vessels – France based steamship line CMA CGM announced plans to retrofit 10 more of its vessels’ bows for more efficient transportation. The bulbous bow at the front of the ship will be changed to optimize for slow steaming speeds of 16-18 knots. The original bows were designed for speeds of 24 knots. CMA CGM has already modified 15 vessels in their fleet and says plans to reduce their CO2 emissions by 50% since 2005.

Indian Sailors Released by Pirates after 4 Years – Somali pirates released 7 Indian sailors after more than 4 years of captivity. The sailors were taken hostage in September 2010 and their ship as well as some of the crew were released the following year. An undisclosed payment was made to the pirates to secure the crew’s release.
